Parsons Collection

The Parsons Collection consists of images of photographs, documents, and realia donated by the family of Dr. Willard Parsons. Dr. Parsons was a general surgeon who practiced in Vicksburg. His distinguished career included clinical care as a founding member of the Vicksburg Clinic and deep involvement in surgical education. He was one of the first surgeons in Mississippi to be certified by the American Board of Surgery, which came into existence in 1936. Dr. Parsons was also responsible for establishing the state's first accredited surgical training program. His reputation at the national level is represented in this collection by the signed photographs of many of the surgical luminaries of his era.
